RAMM cares for wonderful and diverse collections consisting of over one million individual objects and specimens from all over the globe. They are divided into the following curatorial departments
- antiquities – including local and overseas archaeology and local history.
- costume and textiles – including clothing, jewellery, accessories, lace and embroidery
- decorative art – including ceramics, glass, clocks and silver
- world cultures (ethnography)
- fine art – including drawings, paintings, prints photographs and, sculptures
- natural sciences – including botany, geology and zoology
- numismatics – including coins, tokens and medals
- social history – including toys, games, armour, firearms and items relating to the home and to industry
The collections contain items of local, national and international importance, and many are of outstanding historical or cultural significance.
Coins, Medals and Tokens
RAMM’s numismatics collection of over 6,500 items. A collection and study of coins, tokens, and medals.
Contemporary Art
Works of contemporary art and craft are found across the collection areas and include paintings, textiles, sculptures, photographs, photobooks and prints.
Costume and Textiles
The costume and textiles collection contains a wide variety of delicate costume and textiles and lace dating back to the 1600s.
Decorative Art
RAMM’s decorative arts collection. An impressive collection of timepieces, ceramics, glassware, and a vast array of silver!
Antiquities
RAMM’s antiquities collection includes archaeology and local history items from Exeter and the surrounding areas as well as archaeological objects from overseas.
Social History
RAMM’s social history collection contains objects from the social and industrial history of Exeter and the surrounding area.
Natural Sciences
RAMM’s natural sciences collection. Covering a wide array of topics such as botany, geology, zoology. With focuses on fossils, insects, birds, and mammals.
