shoe (shoe)

Descriptions

These shoes are made of red velvet and trimmed with gold braid. They have a high Louis (French) heel typical of the 1760s. The toes are slightly pointed. The cross over pieces at the front are called latchets. These would have been threaded through buckles. Buckles on shoes became fashionable from 1660 onwards, replacing ribbon ties.
