This drawing by PH Gosse shows the Devonshire cup coral (Caryophyllia smithii) from above and in cross section. This matches line drawings in two of Gosse’s publications - ‘A naturalists rambles on the Devonshire coast’ plate 5 and ‘Actinologia Britannica the British Sea Anemones and Corals’ page 310.
