vase (vase)
Descriptions
This vase represents a cross-legged high status dignitary or shaman. Remains of a painted face and chest have survived. The figure’s eyes are closed. The jar’s reverse side is painted to represent a textile giving the impression that this man is contained within a shroud. It is likely that this vessel represents a dead person who is being prepared for burial.
