handaxe (handaxe)

Descriptions

A multi-purpose stone tool used by the first people to live in Devon. We call them Homo heidelbergensis and they lived in Britain during the warmer periods of the Ice Ages. Many hundreds of these tools have been found in gravel pits at Broom.

This object is on display at RAMM in the Down to Earth gallery.
