Magic Lantern Slide: Cotton operatives leaving work at dinner-time (slide)

Descriptions

This photograph shows two women starting their lunch break, and was taken to show the typical clothing worn by cotton factory workers. The slide is part of a set made by John Crabtree showing different aspects of cotton factories in northern England. In census records his job title is given as ‘HM Inspector of Factories’, and he wrote a trade manual 'The Cotton Industry' which was published in 1922. These slides were donated to the museum in 1934 by his relative who lived in Exeter.
