skyphos (vessel)

Descriptions

This is an ancient Greek pottery cup called a ‘skyphos’. It is much smaller than many others so it may have belonged to a child. It is one of a group of objects given to the museum in 1928 by Commander James Brant, a retired Naval officer living in Budleigh Salterton. He said it was “Dug up by him in 1876 at Hissarlik (Plains of Troy) in an ancient cemetery on a farm belonging to Mr. Calvert, who was associated with Schliemann in his search for Troy”.

This object is not on display.
