Descriptions

‘Harbour Scene’ by Nicholas Matthew Condy, c.1845. This oil on panel by Condy depicts a quay: boats are moored and a group of figures is seen together. On the left, a mule carrying baskets stands beside two men who watch a further man empty a basket of fish onto the quayside. A woman wearing a bonnet and apron helps him. Beside them a man wearing a red hat and waistcoat is attending to another basket. Two further men are seen still standing in one of the moored boats. A shoreline is seen across the estuary in the right distance. Condy (1816-1851) was a maritime painter.
