Lace-maker’s lamp (lamp)
Descriptions
Glass globes filled with water were used as a lens to intensify the light of a candle and direct the beam on to the pillow. A diamond-engraved inscription ‘Herbert’ indicates that this lamp was probably used by Ellen Herbert of 5 Cathedral Close. It may have been purchased from Hinton Lake, 43 High Street, Exeter.
