jug (jug)
New AcquisitionsDescriptions
This large but rather battered pottery jug has an interesting history. It was found during routine clearing work at Mill Leet, Exeter in 2008. This type of jug would have been a common site in Exeter households 200-250 years ago, used to hold water, milk, cider or ale. The dark stains on this one suggest that it ended its life being used to hold tar, presumably for mending boats.
