Descriptions

This photographic image taken by William Weaver Baker shows a copper engraving titled the Prospect of Exeter, dated 19 August 1723. This engraving was published in Itinerarium Curiosum by William Stukeley in 1724. The reference to Isca Dumnoniorum is the name of the Roman settlement at Exeter. In the foreground of the engraving is a track on which people are walking and horse riding, the river is set behind, then the houses and church towers of the city are visible. Baker had an interest in the history of Exeter, and probably used this as a lecture slide.

This object is not on display.
