‘A Village Wedding (Shere Church, Surrey)’ by John White, c.1881. White’s oil on canvas depicts a horse, carriage and driver seen left outside the church gate. On the right, two women are seen wearing bonnets, two small boys and a dog also wait. Lining the path to the church doorway are further figures. The Norman Church of Shere, was built in 1190, with brooch spire built between 1213 and 1300.
