Descriptions

Mrs Julie Whale used this cart to deliver milk around the streets of St Thomas. Her son, Mr Tim Whale, tells the story:

‘My dad Frank Whale was born 1934 in Cowick Street. After he married mum in 1957 they bought a dairy shop on the corner of Regent Street and I think the cart was already there. Mum pushed the cart up and down Regent Street, Sydney Road and Ferndale Road while Dad used a van to deliver further afield. They closed the shop and moved to Queens Road in the early 1980s but kept the milk rounds. Dad kept the cart and had it repainted around this time.’

This object is on display at RAMM in Gallery 21.
