Descriptions
This drawing in white and coloured chalks on paper painted black by Philip Henry Gosse depicts a series of illustrated forms including a cross section of sea flowers.
Philip Henry Gosse (1810-1888) was a zoologist who drew illustrations of the natural world, and he is most especially known for his book and illustrations of aquariums and sea life. His books were a part of the Victorian interest into the natural world. Gosse spent his later life in St Marychurch, South Devon.
