Descriptions

This piece of Bronze Age gold is a bit of a mystery object. It is a crumpled and torn fragment of Middle Bronze Age embossed sheet gold. There are small holes threaded with gold wire by two of the edges.
It is unclear as to what this object was or what it was part of. It appears that the sheet may have been folded (and perhaps unfolded) in antiquity, causing the object stress. The embossed decoration is more akin to continental goldwork of that date than British and the the nearest parallels are with some extraordinary gold hats from Germany and Switzerland or with a gold cape from Mold, Wales.
