bow-drill bow (drill bow)
Descriptions
A hide thong was attached to this ivory bow at each end and wound around the drill shaft. The bow was moved rapidly back and forth to rotate the shaft. Pointed with stone, the shaft was used to make holes in bone, antler, wood and stone.
Acquired during the voyage of the HMS Blossom under Captain Beechey, 1825-8
