headdress (headdress)

The crest represents a benevolent river spirit. It is worn over the head by a man during a dance ceremony held every 25 years at Uvol to celebrate the maturity of a new generation. It was purchased in 1998.

This object is on display at RAMM in the World Cultures gallery.
