Joey the Stanley Crane (photograph)
New AcquisitionsDescriptions
Joey the Stanley crane was a much-loved and much photographed resident of Kew gardens. After his death he found his way to RAMM’s collection (accession number 12/1940 - full account of his history included in this record). Kew’s archives suggest that he wasn’t fond of boys, but this photograph implies he could be swayed by the offer of food. Presumably this little boy is sat on the photographer’s case.
Caption on the reverse reads, ‘Stretching for a morsel. “Joey” the Stanley Crane, known to all visitors of Kew Gardens grasping for a tit-bit offered him by a friend. Photopress’
