Descriptions

Waistel Cooper was born in Ayr, Scotland. Initially a painter, he trained at Edinburgh College of Art, but he moved to Porlock in Somerset in 1950 where he would concentrate on ceramics. His work shares the modernist outlook of Lucy Rie and Hans Coper. In 1957 he moved to Culbone, where the natural forms in the surrounding ancient woodlands inspired his ceramics. He moved to Penzance in 1982.
