Juan Fernandez Firecrown (bird: skin)
Collections review: hummingbirdsDescriptions
Received from Mr Hodgetts in the 19th century this specimen originally came from the collection of William Chambers. This is one of the most unusual and interesting hummingbirds in the museum’s collection. It only ever occurred on the remote island of Isla Robinson Crusoe in the Juan Fernandez archipelago where it remains Critically Endangered because of the activities of introduced species and also potential competition with newly arrived hummingbird species on the island.
