human figure (figurine)

Star objects

Descriptions

Wooden human figures like this are incredibly rare, with only six other finds known in Britain. This one was found by chance during quarrying in 1867. It may have been a religious idol, a gift to the gods or even a child’s toy.

This object is on display at RAMM in the Making History gallery.

  1. I am delighted to share my short poem about the Kingsteington figure with this page.
    Please see below.

    The Kingsteington figure:

A figure as old as time,
    Leaking spots of sap,
    Suspended in a waterlogged swamp
    of cryogenic fluid

    Have you waxed and waned
    Sapped and seen
Under the glow of the moon,
    A drowning dream

Two millennia spanned before your second coming
Reborn, you emerged from the muddy waters,
Unarmed against what you were about to see.
A new life, a new time, a new beginning.
