Descriptions

One of 17 embroidered squares given to the museum in 1972. A note with the collection reads, ‘‘When T.M. SNOW and ELIZA NATHAN were married (about 1845), the girls in Devon all embroidered a square for a bed quilt. It was not made up, and after Eliza’s death the squares were divided between her two daughters, Wilmot and Livy’. some of the squares have a piece of paper attached to the back stating who made the square.
