‘The Carriers Cart’ by John Cranch, about 1796. This oil on panel scene depicts a rustic scene dominated by a cart with three figures hanging out of the back - two women and one man. The central figure (a woman) is reaching for the glass of wine poured by the woman who is emerging from the doorway of a cottage. A young man sits on a bench with his fishing rod. A white dog sits on the path.

John Cranch (1751-1821) was a British painter from Devon who painted portraiture and historical scenes.
