Joan Tuckfield

One of the earliest paintings in the RAMM collection, Joan Tuckfield’s portrait was painted in about 1560 when she was a sixty-seven year old widow. Joan was the wife of John Tuckfield, an Exeter merchant, alderman, and member of the Exeter Society of Merchant Adventurers who was Sheriff in 1547 and Mayor in 1549-50.
