‘The Blacksmith’s Shop’ by Edward Robert Smythe (1810-1899), mid-19th Century. This oil on canvas depicts the interior of a blacksmith’s workshop; in the centre a white horse stands waiting - at its feet a spaniel and a box of tools. On the right the anvil and hammer alongside the part seen furnace. On the left the workbench with tools and horseshoes. Through the open doorway on the left - a cottage, church and two figures walking along the pathway.
