Common chaffinch
- Description
- Chaffinches feed on insects and seeds. In The Birds of Devon D’Urban notes that of all the finches, the chaffinch plunders the most seeds and fruit buds. However, it makes up for these ‘thefts’ by also devouring the seeds of ‘noxious weeds’. This female bird is dated 12 December 1907.
