- This photograph by Alfred Oliver Rowden shows the historic site of Babylon. This image records the Ishtar Gate with a detail of an animal in bas-relief. Rowden was in Mesopotamia during the First World War and was not sent home until 1919 or 1920. He visited several archaeological and historical sites and photographed them to record his experiences.
