This photographic slide by Alfred Oliver Rowden was taken whilst he was in Mesopotamia during the First World War. It shows two local women transporting water in vessels. These vessels had handles so they could be held whilst balancing them behind their heads. Rowden was in Mesopotamia during the First World War and was not sent home until 1919 or 1920. He photographed daily scenes like this to record his experiences.
