- This photograph by Alfred Oliver Rowden was taken when he was in Mesopotamia. It shows a local man climbing a palm tree, probably to collect dates. The scene was of interest to Rowden as he took two photographs of it. Rowden was in Mesopotamia during the First World War and was not sent home until 1919 or 1920. He photographed daily scenes like this to record his experiences.
