Magic Lantern Slide: City viewed from bank of river

This photograph by Alfred Oliver Rowden shows a city from the bank of the river. It is likely to be Baghdad where Rowden took many other photographs. This view is taken from an angle to the left of slide 45/1960/95/895 and shows a minaret on the right hand side. The image was taken by Rowden in Mesopotamia, where he served during the First World War until he was sent home in 1919 or 1920. He photographed daily scenes like this to record his experiences.
