A view of Mount Edgecumbe, the Sound &c taken from His Majesty’s Ship the Blenheim - Admiral Milbanke
Description
This drawing was created in 1784 by Captain R. Bright, an amateur artist and navy Captain in the late 18th century. It depicts a view of Mount Edgecumbe stately home and country park, overlooking Plymouth Sound: a deep inlet on the Devon-Cornwall border below Plymouth. The drawing depicts various boats and naval ships from the perspective of HMS Blenheim. Plymouth Sound has historically been used by Royal Navy ships, and at the time that the present piece was created, was under the command of Admiral Mark Milbanke from 1783.
Signed ‘Captain Bright’ to the lower left, titled to the lower centre, and watermarked. The sheet is mounted.
