This carving is of a colonial officer. He is shown seated and wearing formal clothing appropriate to the role. His hat and glasses are detachable. The figure combines a traditional Yoruba carving technique with modern imagery. This carving is probably satirical. Associated with carver Thomas Ona Odulate.
Donated by Mrs. Palmer in 2008. Her husband was Cecil Hugh Stewart Reynolds Palmer, a colonial district officer who left Nigeria in 1956 after 28 years of service there.
