Branding iron

Description
This branding iron was used by Customs officials at the quay in Exeter. The stamp reads ‘GR Exon’. Exon is an abbreviation for ‘Exeter’, and ‘GR’ are the royal stamp of King George I. On the side is a symbol of a crown.
