Eastern moa

Description
This moa bone (left metatarsal) is one of 8 donated in 1878 by The Right Worshipful Henry Drew Thomas who was mayor of Exeter between 1877-78. He was a brewer and partner in Harding, Richards & Thomas or St Annes Brewery, we are not sure which. We also do not know whether he travelled to New Zealand himself or whether he was given the bones by someone else. the original accession register gives the identification of these bones as Meionornis casuarinus which today is known under the name of Emeus crassus the Eastern moa.
