Heavy-footed moa

Description
Subfossil right metatarsal of the ?heavy-footed moa - recored in the register as ‘Palapteryx’. It was donated by Dr John Teschemaker of Exmouth in 1869. The moa was a flightless bird that lacked wing bones entirely and the 9 different species were found only on New Zealand.
